While the term “mergers and acquisitions” (M&A) are often used interchangeably, they differ significantly in meaning. A merger is the consolidation of two existing companies, subsequently resulting in the formation of a sole entity thereafter. An acquisition is simply when one entity acquires or absorbs another, whereby becoming the majority stakeholder.
